That, she did as she found herself in New York City at a young age, working in a beauty salon in the early 1900′s.

Finding that this was her calling, she opened up her own salon in the Big Apple. Business began to flourish and she began to trade under the name of Elizabeth Arden. It was not until 1914 when she changed her name from Florence Nightingale Graham to Elizabeth Arden. Her parents must have known she was going somewhere. Thomas Lewis was the man that she married in 1918, who became her business partner, but sadly all good things come to an end and they divorced in 1935.
